Officer of the Day (OD)

The Officer of the Day (OD) or Floater will assist clients in the lobby or clients who contact the office over the telephone who are assigned to their unit or to the EW when the EW is unavailable.

It is the expectation that the assigned EW/unit will see lobby clients unless they are unavailable due to: out of the office, meetings, or conducting a RE/Intake interview.

Note: EWs that are WOOC supervisors are exempt from OD.

Below are general overall responsibilities for an OD. Each district office will modify and develop workflows based on each office’s operational needs.

Responsibilities

The OD may perform the following on any given day, including but not limited to:

  • Assist walk-in clients.
  • Acknowledge messages when informed that there is a client in the lobby in a timely manner.
  • Document in the CalSAWS Journal Detail page all actions and/or client contacts made.
  • If OD is out of the office, the designated Back-Up OD is required to cover that shift.

OD Calendar

OD/Back-Up OD calendar should be developed to designate an OD for each business day and shared as appropriated.
